Baby Steps!
So, in the last couple of days, PenDell has been showing real signs of improvement. He has been working with physical therapy for a bit each day and they have gotten him sitting up in a recliner for a few hours which he enjoys. He has started eating a bit which is awesome because the sooner he can consume enough calories from food, the sooner they will remove the feeding tube from his nose – he would definitely like that!
He has been saying a few things here and there. It is still quite challenging for him to get his thoughts out into words.
He is trying… that is the main thing, he is becoming cognizant enough to try. He asked the nurse yesterday, “Is this real?” He was attempting to find out if he was in a dream – oh, how I wish we were.
The doctors still have not identified what is causing this. They are going to do yet another lumbar puncture next week. They are going to run another set of tests because they have found that some viruses and some bacteria don’t actually show up until the body has had enough time to make the antibodies against it! Another reason for the lumbar puncture is to see if the white cell count has gone down.
We are at the point where they are running out of things to test and PenDell has been on so many anti – everythings that it is not likely that they will find anything anyway.
I continue to rest in faith and my deep knowing that he will find his way back to me and to all of us. I am profoundly grateful for all of you and the surround that I feel and know.
