The Next Step on Our Journey
Well, we had a big day. We had to move from our room (and believe me, after being here and making “home” for almost two months, that took more than just a walk to the elevator)!
PenDell got his first infusion of Cytoxincyclophosphomide today. He is receiving this chemotherapy drug at a lower dose than it would be used for cancer. Research has shown that using high doses of steroids along with Cytoxincyclophosphomide will increase his recovery and decrease the chance of relapse.
Before the nurse started the infusion, we held each other tenderly and prayed that the drug bring golden light, healing and remission to the inflammation in his brain.
So far, so good. He had no immediate adverse reaction.
He is still coming through more clearly every day. The nurses love him, especially his facial expressions!
I am feeling pretty confident that we will be transferring back to Northern Colorado Rehab Hospital this week. He will likely start out on the LTAC (Longterm Acute Care) side of the hospital. There he will do 1 1/2 hours of rehab a day until he is strong enough for the Acute Rehab side where he will do 3 hours of rehab a day.
I have thanked him over and over for making the journey back to us. He is a Warrior, that is for sure!
This journey certainly is not over but I am feeling like we have found the way leading out of the woods.
I am ever grateful for the love and support that you each continue to pour our way. We are blessed and humbled.
