... and a Happy New Year!
Indeed it is. We are home. We are doing well. There is still an unknown journey ahead. We are in it together whatever it is.
We left the Rehabilitation Hospital to a standing ovation lining both entrance halls. PenDell walked out with only a walker. Very few dry eyes in the house!
Erin joined us that morning so we, got a celebratory coffee then caravaned home arriving around 11:30am on December 20th. It was so wonderful to be greeted by Garret and Vivian with flowers and a balloon 🙂 They stayed and visited with us as we made the transition from there to here.
Walking into the house was a like taking a deep breath in an oxygen-rich environment… you know the kind that causes you to just keep taking in deep breaths!
It was so wonderful to see Sadie, our dog. She is actually still adjusting to our being back.
Then we started to feel into what our new normal is.
Home Health started on the 21st.
On Christmas Eve, Erin took off work. We ended up getting a tree and decorating it that night! It is beautiful!
Christmas morning, Evan and Isabel flew from the east coast! Erin picked them up and we were all together for Christmas brunch! PenDell was elated to be with us all together. We kept things pretty simple. We had lovely meals and lovely reconnection throughout the day.
Then we had PenDell’s 65th birthday! Again, we kept things simple and had lovely moments together. We took a drive over Horsetooth Damn and saw the lake and the mountains, meadows with barns, geese, sky… PenDell looked around at one point and said, “Every where I look, we are surrounded by quiet splendor!” I love that description of our drive.
The next day, Evan and Isabel moved on to their next destination; then Erin went back to work…
A couple of days later, our friends John and Carol arrived on their way from North Carolina to California. John and Carol offered non-stop support, honey-do’s and care for us in our continued transition!
Last night, we enjoyed spending New Year’s Eve with John, Carol, Garret and Vivian.
And now, Happy New Year!

As I wrote the events above, I felt how much we have accomplished already. I didn’t even describe everything we have done. Sadie and I have gotten out for walks. PenDell has had some form of therapy almost every day. We have exercises that we do a few times a day. I am working to build my business back. PenDell and I have so much to say to each other!
We are transforming!
PenDell’s experience is filled with immense gratitude. He is transcendent.
Love, Love, Love to each of you as we begin this powerful journey into 2017. I am increasingly grateful in this journey.
